Update

Lucky Mutt has been sooooo lucky in the last several months, getting to walk some of Manhattan's best, most fun dogs. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities to get to know them and their owners. However, due to a new career opportunity, from today on, Lucky Mutt Adventures will only be providing limited pet sitting services. If you are interested in locating a Manhattan-based dog walker, I encourage you to contact me as I can recommend several excellent options for you. Thank you all again for your business--I enjoyed every minute of it!

Crufts!

One of the many things that I miss about having cable TV is Crufts (and, of course, the Westminster) dog show. Thanks, CNN, for keeping me up-to-speed!

Happy New Year!

It can be awfully hard to keep a New Year's resolution! But when our resolution affects the well-being of others, it can motivate us to stay focused. This year, consider your pet's when you make your resolutions. This article has some great suggestions for dog owners: weight loss, dental care, and monitoring lab work regularly for pets.

While dental and medical care are extremely important issues, Lucky Mutt is passionate about helping dogs maintain a healthy weight. Weight is a serious issue facing a huge number of American pets (over half of them are overweight or obese!), but is surprisingly simple to address. After all, dogs only eat what we give them access to. Switching to a higher quality of kibble and limiting treats can make an enormous difference, as can adding regular exercise. Lucky Mutt has lots of options for dog exercise activities, but for some dogs, even 10 extra minutes in the morning and in the evening can help. Exercise needs for dogs vary, though. Check this article out for greater detail on what kind and duration of exercise your own dog(s) may need.

Merry Christmas!

Lucky Mutt has been so busy running around town with dogs that Christmas almost slipped by! I'm so grateful, though, for all the support from my clients, family and friends, and, of course, the dogs. Lucky Mutt, Broccoli, and Einstein all hope that you have had a seriously great Christmas!

Tired as a dog (of studying)?

Oh my goodness, this article warmed my heart! While college is not always the best time for everyone to have a dog (although there are TONS of great college student/dog owners out there!), students can really benefit from even a little canine loving. Another great way to relieve some stress and get some doggie fun in while doing something wonderful for your community? Volunteer at your local shelter! It only takes an hour or so out of your day, and both you and the dogs there will feel much better!

Lucky Mutt is ready for the winter!

Contrary to popular belief, the winter can be a great time to get your dogs plenty of exercise. While it is important to consider your pup's physical condition (such as their size, endurance, and so forth), there are tons of great activities for them when the weather gets chilly. Hiking, running, and longer walks are easier now that the summer heat, which keeps many dogs indoors, is a thing of the past. I like to be creative, though! Does your dog like to play fetch? Snowballs make an interesting new tennis ball for them (just make sure it's only snow--no rocks or sticks in it)! Does he or she have a nose like Sherlock Holmes? Winter offers lots of great opportunities to practice tracking, a kind of hide-and-seek that provides both a physical and mental workout.

What if the weather outside is truly frightful? There are also lots of great indoor activities that help your dog shake off cabin fever: agility, stairs, brain teaser toys, and obedience lessons are all great options! The Manhattan area is especially lucky to have great trainers and facilities such at Mutt School and Emerald City Canine Agility available!

And don't forget! The Lucky Mutt mobile makes it out and around town in all but the very worst weather!
